Levels of Care

Routine Home Care (in patient's residence or nursing facilities). This Medicare benefit does not cover the patient's room and board in a nursing home.

Continuous Care (for short periods of time to manage a crisis situation). This level provides eight hours of direct one-on-one care in a twenty-four hour period. Half of that care must be provided by a licensed nurse.

In-Patient Care. For the control of acute pain or other symptom management that cannot be adequately managed in the home, short term care is provided in a hospital or skilled nursing facility.

Respite Care. This care is given in the home to provide the primary caregiver with rest up to five days at a time.
